Yorkie Jamboree 2024

Sharing is caring!

I’m writing this post more for me today than anything else. It will be a visual reminder of the last Yoekie Jamboree. It’s been going on for 10 years, and I’m sad to see it end. I’m hoping someone will decide to take it over.

The jamboree takes place in a tiny resort town of Grand Rivers, Kentucky. Even though I live in the neighboring state of Virginia, I’m on the far southeast corner of the state and Grand Rivers is on the far southwest corner of Kentucky so it took 14 hours (before potty, gas and food stops) to drive there.

My friend Deb (who is also Bear’s breeder) drove us there. She brought her 2 Yorkies, Magic who is a tiny 3 pound black Yorkie and Tinkerbell (also known as TT) who is even a tinier 2 pound traditional Yorkie. I brought my black Yorkie Bear and my Chihuahua Lucy. Ziggy, my traditional Yorkie and Lucas, my Chihuahua-Yorkie mix stayed home because I knew I couldn’t handle more than 2 dogs by myself.

In the past, I have stayed in a rustic little cabin by myself that was built into the side of a mountain but they are no longer available to rent now so Deb and I and another sweet lady name Mickie rented out a house. It was up on a large hill overlooking a beautiful large lake and marina.

My favorite part was the screened-in deck and when we were at the house, the dogs and I spent a lot of time out on the deck.

Here’s Bear peeking at me over the coffee table:

And here is sweet Lucy hanging out with me.

So what did we do at the Jamboree? We did a lot of socializing. We had some great meals together. We played games. We did some crafts (see the teacup gnome I made below). There was a grooming class that had a bow-making segment. On Saturday we had a Yorkie parade on main street for the town people.

Mickie designed these cute little Yorkies in hot air balloons as tabletop decorations and Deb and I made 12 of them. They were so cute!

Here’s a few pics of our fun times. In the first photo, I’m the one sitting down on the left side of the table and Deb and Mickie are beside me facing the camera:

Here’s a photo of me holding Lucy and Bear. Excuse my crazy hair. It’s still growing out from chemo last year.

Here’s another photo of the grounds where we were staying. So beautiful! The only bad thing is there were lots of trees that had lots of ticks. I pulled 3 off of me, 2 off of Lucy and 5 off of Bear. Ugh!

Below that is a closeup of my handsome Bear.

Dog Blogger, Former Dog Groomer

I have adored Yorkies for well over 50 years. As a young adult, I began to show and breed them. Now, I just write about them and have several in my little pack of small dogs.

I have had dogs all my life and have trained as a dog groomer. I also have been a kennel worker, worked in a pet hotel through PetSmart, and still am a pet sitter.

Check out my bio for more information about me.
